I am an RN. I stopped by a friends house to get work related paperwork for my boyfriend who was in the hospital getting ready to have emergency surgery. I was there 5 mins and was talking to the wife and husband in their room. They had their son there and there was a lot of noise. As we were discussing my boyfriends surgery and leave of absence paperwork the sheriff's department showed up with a search warrant for their son. He had 2 control buys of pot. When we heard them say sheriffs dept her husband ran out of the room and myself and his wife walked to the door of the bed room where we were handcuffed and taken to the living room with 6 other guys their sons friends. No search of any person was done and no rights were read to us
After they read the search warrant to us all sitting in their living room another cop went into the rest of the house searching. The officer found something that they said was meth in the toilet in the bathroom off the master bedroom. Since they cuffed myself and the wife in their bedroom we were both charged with possession of the meth. I have a clean record with absolutely no violations. I was charged with a gathering charge and this possession charge of meth a serious misdemeanor. I was fired from my job as a nurse at the nursing home I worked at. My rn license is unencumbered still as of now but I have an arraignment hearing 8/26/19 and the attorney I was appointed hasn't even talked to me yet. My reputation is ruined where I live and I have been a volunteer fire fighter and emt in my community for 12 years. This was posted in the paper, Facebook, news, and radio. How do I find someone to fight for my innocence and clear my name? This has cost me everything besides my wages. I cant even drive into Harlan without a city cop following me around. I am a nervous wreck.
A criminal defense lawyer is a lawyer (mostly barristers) specializing in the defense of individuals and companies charged with criminal activity. Some criminal defense lawyers are privately retained, while others are employed by the various jurisdictions with criminal courts for appointment to represent indigent persons; the latter are generally called public defenders. The terminology is imprecise because each jurisdiction may have different practices with various levels of input from state and federal law or consent decrees. Some jurisdictions use a rotating system of appointments with judges appointing a private practice attorney or firm for each case. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criminal_defense_lawyer
