Possible Solutions:

  1. Document Medical Evidence: Before approaching MainePERS, gather all medical documentation that outlines your diagnoses and how they impact your ability to work. This should be comprehensive and from licensed medical professionals.

  2. Consult a Disability Attorney: Given the complexity of these cases, it's advisable to find the right lawyer specializing in disability services within Maine. They would be familiar with MainePERS and can guide you effectively.

  3. Liaise with MainePERS Directly: Approach MainePERS directly, making sure you've understood their disability criteria. The MainePERS website provides valuable resources, including application processes and benefit structures.

  4. Consider Mediation: If there's a dispute that isn't quickly resolved, consider seeking arbitration and mediation attorneys to mediate between you and MainePERS.

Average Costs for Legal Services in Maine:

Service Average Cost
Initial consultation $200 - $300
Disability claim representation (full service) $1,800 - $3,500
Mediation services $1,000 - $2,500
