You can turn a probate case over a lawyer, or you can take on primary responsibility for handling the probate yourself and consult a lawyer only when you have questions or need limited help. The vast majority of probate cases are just paperwork. So if no one is fighting over the estate, and especially if your court provides fill-in-the-blanks probate forms, as many do, you may be able to handle most of the probate yourself.
