My 14 YO child sent a message to another teen on her 18th birthday accusing said person of manipulation of a friend in common asking for explicit photos. My child wanted to stand up for the friend and sent a message on Snapchat saying they hope the alleged manipulator “rot in hell”. The 18 YO seemingly got distressed and talked about attempting suicide. The mother of the alleged victim of the manipulation texted me this morning telling me she woke up to an angry mother of the 18 YO saying her child was suicidal because of the message. And that they have enough evidence to press charges.
For what I saw written in the message, I am not sure there is any kind of realistic threat (it was more “God know what you did” and “hope you rot in hell”) without any threat of physical violence or of doxxing.
Do I need to prepare for a possible lawsuit? Would it proceed? How does interstate issues work when it’s over the internet?
Those two teens live in Mississippi while we live in Los Angeles.
