I have a case for driving without ever being licenced. I was licensed in another state before but not currently at the time of the incident but can most likely get proof of being licensed in this state before and currently licensed in this state now. I live in another state that is 800+ miles away and don't really want to go clear over there to turn myself in and then bail out to wait for another court date that could be a month or more down the road. I have been pulled over by highway patrol and they informed me of the warrant and said they did not want to extradite. What options do I have at this point? Can I talk to district attorney to see if they would drop the charges with proof? Could I try to go-to my local jail and try to force them to extradite and if not I believe it's 45-90 days for them to drop it or pick me up? Can a lawyer out of Indiana get the warrant dropped and represent me from out of state? My biggest problem is the last one and I do not have a lot of money and it would take quite a long time for me to save up enough money in order to even retain a lawyer. Thanks for your time.
A criminal defense lawyer is a lawyer (mostly barristers) specializing in the defense of individuals and companies charged with criminal activity. Some criminal defense lawyers are privately retained, while others are employed by the various jurisdictions with criminal courts for appointment to represent indigent persons; the latter are generally called public defenders. The terminology is imprecise because each jurisdiction may have different practices with various levels of input from state and federal law or consent decrees. Some jurisdictions use a rotating system of appointments with judges appointing a private practice attorney or firm for each case. Source: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criminal_defense_lawyer
