Can I register for a patent or trademark of a name or saying if one already exists for that name or saying, if I alter the name or saying by changing letters but end result is pronounced the same.

Location: Lexington Park, Maryland  |  Law type: Patent attorney

I have a name or saying that I want to trademark in order to produce and sell many different items using the name or saying (logo),  I have searched the saying on the USPTO website and have found that it has been recently registered.  I want to know if I can 1.  Register the exact same words, saying, name etc..  2. Register an altered version of the saying that results in the same pronunciation.  3.  Can the same words be registered in a different geographic location???

Thank you!

r, Chris
