I hired this attorney to represent me in Dover Municipal Court for 2 tickets I had received. When I paid his retainer fee I made it clear to him that I needed to be in Court on a certain date. (I even wrote this on my check and retainer form.) After checking his calendar he assured me he was available. I knew the Court date was coming up within 10 days, so I even drove all my papers and check up to his office the next day. Since he did not have a true office or any staff I had to leave my paperwork in a downstairs but unrelated business. I called/texted him several times to confirm he had received my paperwork and also to confirm where I should meet him on the day of my hearing. All of a sudden, he changed in midstream. He told me he never said he would be available that day and it didn't matter as they have Court everyday (He knew I was leaving NJ for an indefinite period of time and needed to get this taken care of before I left the State) and he could get it changed to another day that week. He also told me the Court never hears this type of case on the first day and there was no prosecutor even there that day to handle the Case. In the end, I had to go to Court by myself, which was fine. I talked to the prosecutor, who was in fact there, paid a small fine and the whole thing was done. The current problem is that I am still waiting for my retainer check which he promised to return to me for almost 2 weeks. The Prosecutor told me if I didn't get it back I should write to the NJ Bar Association, which I intend to do.
