Chase Smith is in my estimation the greatest criminal defense lawyer in Tennessee. Over the years I have watched him defend many people some of which I knew and some I did not. He is fastiduous at answering or returning phone calls and texts which is definitely important between your lawyer and you. As well as excellent at spotting the little things that make the biggest differences in court, Prosecuting Attorneys and The Police and Sheriff's Departments know they better had crossed their Ts and dotted their Is if he is your Attorney. He is outgoing and friendly while being no nonsense at the same time. But more importantly he is honest and upfront with you starting the first time you walk into his office for you free consultation. He will tell you exactly what he believes he can do for you and whether or not his fee to represent you would be worth you paying him or if another lawyer would be able to do the same for less. A few years ago I (with a different last name as I've since gotten my life together and have remarried since) had a criminal case and was assigned a pro bono lawyer from his office, before my case went to trial she had moved (unbeknownst to me) as I was standing before the judge I found this out and Chase ( who knew who I was because of my ex and then remembered me as a witness in a case he was defending the year before) offered to take over my case pro bono. AND he actually came to see me in jail prior to my court appearance and as anyone who has ever been in MCJ knows this is extremely rare and greatly reduces your stress while you wait. He got me the absolute BEST possible outcome. Unfortunately I ended up getting rearrested and my Mom and I went to see him about hiring him this time and he listened to the charges against me and looked at my Mom and he said " I will defend Tracy for free again, IF you take the money you are willing to pay me and instead send her for treatment and IF she chooses to go and complete the program". He then looked at me and take me a few things about my self that I was unaware he would even know. He told me that he's seen me around with the wrong people and if my addiction didn't kill me first that my choices of associates would. He said he could tell by my demeanor and by speaking with my Mom that I had been raised better and knew better, he said he knew part of my story ( because of my ex and violence I had been subjected to through that relationship was widely known and discussed by many) that I was on a path I was not meant for and that this was very likely the last chance I might have to help my Mom and him if I was willing to save myself. I agreed and went for treatment. He went to court with me and the judge agreed to allow me to go to treatment and once I had completed it the charges against me were dropped. The rest as they say is history. So in closing I will say that Chase Smith is definitely the best Criminal Defense attorney in Tennessee. I highly recommend him and though I would definitely hire him if the need arose I'm thankful that I never should have to.
